T-Rump Press Summit — ‘A F–ing Firing Squad’

November 22, 2016

28357_1141647Overcast and cold this early Tuesday on California’s north coast — rain expected later this afternoon, and beyond some intervals of dry, our weather will be wet, occasionally ‘heavy‘ wet through Friday.

Now exactly two weeks ago, life was torn-apart in a bigly-diverse way.
And just yesterday, an indication of an ominous horror — we be fucked.

As in ‘we,’ America. This country can’t really function as it has for more than a couple of centuries without a strong press — the media/journalism keeps shit from seeping into the framework of the American experiment.
On Monday, T-Rump displayed the future and press access to his bullshit.
And again this morning, more ugly.

T-Rump had called for a media-summit yesterday at his lair, Trump Tower, and all the producers, on-camera talent, gathered in a big room supposedly for an off-the-record chat about news coverage — among attending were NBC’s Deborah Turness, Lester Holt and Chuck Todd, ABC’s James Goldston, George Stephanopoulos, David Muir and Martha Raddatz,
Also, CBS’ Norah O’Donnell John Dickerson, Charlie Rose, Christopher Isham and King, Fox News’ Bill Shine, Jack Abernethy, Jay Wallace, Suzanne Scott, MSNBC’s Phil Griffin and CNN’s Jeff Zucker and Erin Burnett.
And despite the nefarious irony, T-Rump pulled a nasty, petulant ass chewing on everybody in the room.
From the NY Post yesterday afternoon:

It was like a f–ing firing squad,” one source said of the encounter.
“Trump started with [CNN chief] Jeff Zucker and said ‘I hate your network, everyone at CNN is a liar and you should be ashamed,’ ” the source said.
“The meeting was a total disaster. The TV execs and anchors went in there thinking they would be discussing the access they would get to the Trump administration, but instead they got a Trump-style dressing down,” the source added.
A second source confirmed the fireworks.
“The meeting took place in a big board room and there were about 30 or 40 people, including the big news anchors from all the networks,” the other source said.
“Trump kept saying, ‘We’re in a room of liars, the deceitful dishonest media who got it all wrong.’
He addressed everyone in the room calling the media dishonest, deceitful liars.
He called out Jeff Zucker by name and said everyone at CNN was a liar, and CNN was [a] network of liars,” the source said.
“Trump didn’t say [NBC reporter] Katy Tur by name, but talked about an NBC female correspondent who got it wrong, then he referred to a horrible network correspondent who cried when Hillary lost who hosted a debate — which was Martha Raddatz who was also in the room.”
“[CBS Good Morning co-host Gayle] King did not stand up, but asked some question, ‘How do you propose we the media work with you?’
Chuck Todd asked some pretty pointed questions.
David Muir asked ‘How are you going to cope living in DC while your family is in NYC?
“It was a horrible meeting.”

And the other side: ‘Trump spokeswoman Kellyanne Conway told reporters the gathering went well. “Excellent meetings with the top executives of the major networks,” she said during a gaggle in the lobby of Trump Tower. “Pretty unprecedented meeting we put together in two days.”

Afterwards, a response from those in attendance — via the UK’s Daily Mail:

A handful of network executives and anchors who were among those invited to attend Donald Trump’s media summit on Monday are lashing out at the president-elect and his behavior during the off-the-record discussion.
Four of those present spoke with the New Yorker about what happened behind closed doors in Trump Tower, saying that the first 20 minutes of the hour-long meeting involved Trump attacking many of those present and their network coverage of him during the race.
‘I have to tell you, I am emotionally f***ing pissed,’ said one of those present at the meeting.
That individual said that after being summoned to the meeting they were prepared to give Trump ‘the benefit of the doubt,’ until he began his attack on those present.
‘After the meeting today, though — and I am being human with you here – I think, F*** him!
‘I know I am being emotional about it. And I know I will get over it in a couple of days after Thanksgiving. But I really am offended. This was unprecedented. Outrageous!’
Another individual who was in attendance said of Trump’s behavior during the summit: ‘He is the same kind of blustering, bluffing blowhard as he was during the campaign.’

This morning, T-Rump was supposed to meet with Arthur Sulzberger, publisher of The New York Times, but the drama queen hit the Twitter trail and shit on it — he canceled the meeting, then a couple of hours later, placed it back on schedule.
On Twitter from the asshole: ‘I cancelled today’s meeting with the failing @nytimes when the terms and conditions of the meeting were changed at the last moment. Not nice
Via the Washington Post:

A few hours later, however, Trump reversed course and decided to host the newspaper’s publisher and a group of journalists at Trump Tower, after all.
Before Trump’s about-face, the Times counter claimed that it “did not change the ground rules at all and made no attempt to” and said in a statement that it was Trump’s team that tried to alter the parameters.
The Times said the original arrangement included a brief off-the-record session and a longer on-the-record conversation with reporters and columnists.
Trump wanted the entire meeting to be off the record, according to the newspaper.
“We were unaware that the meeting was canceled until we saw the president-elect’s tweet this morning,” Times spokeswoman Eileen Murphy said in an early-morning statement.

We’ll have to wait and see — we’re in a way-bad place…
