Walking Leroy in the Valley — Episode 14 (abridged)

June 12, 2020

Breezy and not all-that-warm this late-afternoon Friday here in California’s Central Valley. Compared to yesterday (101-degrees), today has been a snap — it’s 77 right now and with cool gusts the ambiance is near-comfortable.

Another irregular/regular post of Leroy and I strolling along Rascal Bike Path here in Merced. Although we walk every day, only maybe a couple times a week, or once, do I post about them. The daily meanders in a set, known environment sedates the brain for another day (we walk in early morning — because heat) processing being a bit-player in a science-fiction/catastrophe movie, while in real-time watch the movie unfold on my laptop.
As I wrote to one of my daughters, these walks are ‘a pastoral respite from the crazy.’

Leroy…

He’s on a pose in a small open space just before Monte Vista Court, we going east before 8 yesterday morning, and it was already getting hot. We didn’t walk long, too late of a start for a good walk with the weather, we have to cut them short.
Today was nice, and we were early enough and it was cool enough for us to make it all the way to Rahilly Park and just short of Parson Avenue. Near an hour-and-an-half total round trip.

A basset hound/greyhound mix, Leroy is an old guy (nine) and doesn’t like it when the air goes heavy with the hear, which happens a lot around these parts.

A number of people out on the path this morning, not too many dog-walkers, though, mainly quick-stepping walkers, singles and in pairs, and mostly female. A few old guys, too.

A stretch of the Rascal just east of the G Street entrance/exit and the direction of Leroy’s gaze in the pix above.

A narrow tree-lined portion of the Rascal leading-up to Rahilly Park, one side old, cracked asphalt, and the other a well-worn, cracked dirt path — from yesterday.

Leroy in repose back his bed — a pix from a few weeks ago just after I got this shitty camera. And as a reminder, if you notice the date/time stamp, don’t freak, it’s not 2017.
Right? I know this a movie, but…

Onward…
