T-Rump Skating On Obvious Crimes: ‘A Growing Menace To Our System Of Self-Government’

April 21, 2022

One of the most-confounding wonders of the nowadays is why the shit T-Rump isn’t on trial somewhere, anywhere for all the obvious, out-in-the-open crimes he’s committed since he was an asshole kid.
Especially in trying to subvert an election and instigate an insurrection

Despite evidence to the contrary, he’s skated. And a former close associate/confidenat Michael Cohen is fed up with the bullshit from AG Merrick Garland, and the New York prosecutors’ office.
Time is of the essence says Cohen:

Details from The Daily Beast this morning:

Michael Cohen, the New York lawyer Trump used for years as his family company’s trusted consigliere, told The Daily Beast he’s already wasted too much of his time on a case that slowly and then suddenly doesn’t seem to be going anywhere. Prosecutors only have until the current grand jury’s term expires on April 30 to issue charges, at which point they must ask jurors who’ve already done this for six months to continue hearing evidence—or call the whole thing off and awkwardly make the entire presentation all over again in front of another 23 jurors.

If this grand jury is let go, Cohen won’t play ball. Asked if he’d be willing to sit down again with investigators or testify at a future trial against Trump, Cohen responded with utter exasperation.

“No. I spent countless hours, over 15 sessions — including three while incarcerated. I provided thousands of documents, which coupled with my testimony, would have been a valid basis for an indictment and charge,” he said.
“The fact that they have not done so despite all of this… I’m not interested in any further investment of my time,” he said.

Cohen was a cornerstone of the investigation from the moment it was launched by the previous district attorney.
Case in point: The entire probe is named after him. Court records made public weeks ago show that Manhattan prosecutors referred to the investigation internally as “The Fixer,” a reference to Cohen’s role as Trump’s mob-like consigliere.

Horrible, incomprehensible bullshit.
Robert Reich at the Guardian, from this morning as well, also warns time is running out to prosecute the Orange Turd or he skates — some points:

Let me pause here to emphasize two things that are too easily forgotten. First, no one to this day has produced even a shred of evidence that fraud affected the results of the 2020 election. Sixty federal judges, along with Trump’s own departments of justice and homeland security, have concluded that Biden won fair and square.

Second, the lynchpin of democracy is the peaceful transition of power from those who lose elections to those who win them.

Yet it’s been over a year and half since Trump has refused to concede – continuously spreading his big lie that the election was stolen, pushing public officials at all levels of government to overturn the election, and instigating an insurrection at the US Capitol on the day Congress was to certify the election results.

As federal district court judge David Carter stated in a recent opinion: “[T]he court finds it more likely than not that President Trump corruptly attempted to obstruct the Joint Session of Congress on January 6, 2021.”

Trump is already well on the way to rebuilding the Republican party around his big lie. He is purging the Republican party of his critics and installing loyalists in key state positions.

And he is inspiring Republican-state legislatures to enact election sabotage laws that will give Trump and his supporters opportunities to rig congressional election results. The upcoming 2022 congressional elections will serve as proving grounds for his attempt to steal the 2024 presidential election.

Trump is a growing menace to our system of self-government. The longer he goes without being held accountable for what he has done, the more danger he poses.

Trump’s indictment and conviction must occur as quickly as possible. The upcoming midterm elections will not simply be a battle between Republicans and Democrats. They will be a battle between Trump acolytes and fair election supporters over protecting the integrity of our elections and our democracy.

A wonder, a terrible, horrible wonder.

Yet once again here we are…

(Illustration out front is of a New York state high-school student exhibit: ‘The piece was displayed during student-driven art show at Shenendehowa High School. It consisted of at least 12 identical black-and-white pictures of Donald Trump. There was also a sign above the pictures that read, “Draw on Me.” Using markers from the art classroom, some students opted to scribble critical messages and profanities on the pictures‘ — and found here).
