Next Friday — the snap-cut heard all around DC.
Despite Village headmaster Bob Woodward’s assertion President Obama “owns” the up-coming sequester, Republicans are the source. Obama called ’em out in his speech this morning: “Are Republicans in Congress really willing to let these cuts fall on our kids’ schools and mental health care just to protect tax loopholes for corporate jet owners?”
Is suicide an incentive to live a better life?

Gail Collins has a fun-filled column up at the New York Times this morning on the intentional harm this total bullshit will do everyday Americans.
Money quote off a reasoned request on why Congress-clowns can’t wait until the economy is better: Perfectly rational thought, but remember these sequester cuts are on an automatic trigger. To avert it, you have to come up with an alternative that’s acceptable to the Republicans in the House of Representatives — possibly the only people in the country who would prefer furloughing air traffic controllers to a minimum tax on millionaires.
Despite the failings of a lot sectors in DC, the GOP is made-up of nothing but self-centered assholes.
This entire affair is nothing BUT bullshit. US peoples have elected and sent to DC a crack-pack of self-centered, nefarious-leaning rich. And they really don’t care what happens — unless there’s an election coming, and if air traffic controllers are laid off, airports close, and all kinds of other public services are hurt, then way-quick, assholes will suddenly develop ears.
Until then, chaos a-coming:
In fact, many Republicans now see the automatic cuts in spending as the only way to tackle the federal deficit.
Some liberals won’t balk either because they want cuts in Pentagon spending.
And many Democrats believe the cuts will have to materialize before Republicans agree to some increase in taxes.
“Some Democrats want it because of the defense cuts, and Republicans want it because they want to do anything to cut domestic spending,” said Brendan Daly, a former top aide to Rep. Nancy Pelosi, the former House speaker and now Democratic leader.
“And politically, it’s difficult to oppose because the impact won’t be so severe right away.”
Democratic consultant Jim Manley, a former Senate leadership aide who periodically consults with Obama officials, added: “Not only do I expect the sequester to kick in, but unfortunately it will take a couple of temporary government shutdowns before Republicans realize they need to sit down and negotiate in good faith.”
During the coming week, I’m sure more shit will rise to the surface of a real-nasty and stagnant pond.
