Raining and dreary this mid-morning Tuesday on California’s north coast, and the downfall has been continuous since well-before daylight.
Supposedly, a pretty-wet storm with ‘widespread rain’ forecast through maybe Thursday, which means there won’t be many sunshine-breaks in there, if any at all.
In describing our environment today, the NWS nailed more than just natural phenomenon, but also explained ugly-nasty shit all over the whole, wide world as experiencing a period of ‘unsettled weather‘ — except that ‘out-yonder’ forecast will never change, only get worse.
Although outside yesterday was gorgeous, with bright sunshine and nice just about all day, the internal functions were shitty — I’m trying to quit smoking after all these years, and old-age health is peculiar to say the least. Couple old bones with MSNBC/CNN and you’ve created an ‘unsettled‘ mental state.
Offshoot for yesterday, too, was for the first time in many, many years that I didn’t post due to a ‘non’ technical problem. A personal goal is to post at least once a day during the workweek, and bearing IT-related situations, pretty-much have stayed on schedule for a good-part of a decade. (Tenth anniversary for Compatible Creatures is in a couple of weeks).
Just couldn’t pull any subject into a coherent line of thought. There’s so much creepy, dangerous shit going on all over it can blow the mind, easily and without hesitation.
However, I was able to place the art for the post, M.C Escher’s ‘Three Spheres II‘ (above found here), after I’d surfed news sites online, while cable talking-heads droned on-and-on from the TV, and decided the shit was too deep for right then — there a way-abundance of stories all around the naked planet.
After awhile in the early evening, I seem to lack a coherent energy up to produce words — I went back to binge-watching ‘Scrubs‘ on Netflix.
An indication the shit is getting deep…
Also on the current news cycle is the new movie about poet Emily Dickinson opening to fairly-good reviews, and on my want-to-see list. Cynthia Nixon portrays Dickinson in “A Quiet Passion,” and apparently nails it — Richard Brody at The New Yorker: ‘Her incarnation of Dickinson seems to rise outward from the bone; she seems frozenly poised with, yes, a quiet passion that’s all the more impassioned for its unplanned quietness. Nixon’s Dickinson would like, rather, to make a little noise, and when she does so it’s with a disagreeable, disruptive, hostile bitterness that exemplifies Davies’s view of the poet’s unhappy anonymity.’
Even maintaining in-line with the ‘unsettled‘ atmosphere motif of this freaky post, from Sunday’s Guardian review of the film:
As time passes, Emily’s sparky contrariness calcifies into bitterness, the sharpness of her prose also lacerating her romantic prospects; the “meticulous guarding of her soul’s independence” creating a chasm between her success and her self-esteem.
“In matters of the soul, you are rigorous,” says Vinnie (Jennifer Ehle) to her sister.
Emily’s response?
That “rigour is no substitute for happiness.”
But deep down, Nixon’s Emily knows that marriage would constrict her creativity.
This tension is the film’s main preoccupation and its most precise profundity: the blunt, exhausting pain of living alone and in one’s own head.
Dickinson is my most-favorite poet — a few words saying a shitload.
And she was also a sad, weird loner writing incredible poetry.
Odd:
I’m Nobody! Who are you?
Are you – Nobody – too?
Then there’s a pair of us!
Don’t tell! they’d advertise – you know!How dreary – to be – Somebody!
How public – like a Frog –
To tell one’s name – the livelong June –
To an admiring Bog!
A settling of the unsettled…
