Approaching early-evening and darkness here this Monday in California’s Central Valley, and in the continuing plotline of the nowadays, it’s also near-upon 4 o’clock tomorrow morning in Ukraine.

Beyond the death and destruction, this afternoon an ominous pile of future shit from China’s foreign minister Wang Yi, staying tight with Vlad Putin: ‘No matter how perilous the international landscape, we will maintain our strategic focus and promote the development of a comprehensive China-Russia partnership in the new era. The friendship between the two peoples is iron clad.‘

Yet what seems satire blended with mockery is sometimes not all that hilarious:

Russia on Monday published an official list of foreign states it considers to be “unfriendly,” as President Vladimir Putin’s invasion of Ukraine entered day 12.

Business dealings in Russia involving these countries will now require special government authorization, Russia said, in a response to crippling sanctions imposed by Western nations over the invasion.

Those on the list are considered to have taken “unfriendly actions against Russia, Russian companies, and citizens,” the decree states.

Is an ‘invasion,’ then friendly? Vs ‘unfriendly‘ calling foul?

Vlad is in the throes of monarchical history of his own design — making him the czar of all the lands as far as missiles may fly, highly-influenced by a hard-nasty chronicler of a fantasy Russian empire.
That sense comes from one fascinating, though, scary piece on the Ukraine/Russia bloody-bullshit-business by Ed Simon at History News Network. Simon, also a contributing editor at HNN, paints a deeper picture of Putin’s brain on longtime warped, historical-political acid — with nefarious origins of military creepy:

Should Vladimir Putin’s barbarous war of Russian expansion move beyond the borders of Ukraine into Moldova, Finland, or even Sweden, then expect to hear the name “Aleksandr Gelyevich Dugin” far more frequently.
A former philosophy professor at Moscow State University, Dugin has combined his obsessions with occultism and the neo-pagan philosophies of European fascists like Julius Evola and Alain de Benoist to derive his fervently nationalistic ideology of “Eurasianism,” promulgated in books with torpid titles such as Foundations of Geopolitics and The Fourth Political Theory.

With his disheveled dress and long beard, Dugin affects the appearance of an Orthodox mystic, bearing a not uncoincidental resemblance to the monk Grigori Rasputin.
In the West, a philosopher like Dugin expressing admiration for both Satanism and the Waffen-SS would be dismissed as a crank; proclamations that national greatness are to be found in a “genuine, true, radically revolutionary and consistent, fascist fascism” would rightly not endear you to the public at large.
In the Russian Federation, however, Dugin is an adviser to high-ranking members of Vladimir Putin’s United Russia party.
Even more disturbing, according to Foreign Policy, his 1997 Foundations of Geopolitics has been required reading for students at the Military Academy of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation for a generation.

Percurrent events: ‘In Foundations of Geopolitics, which Dugin describes as a brief for Russian ambitions from “Dublin to Vladivostok,” the philosopher claims that “Ukraine as a state has no geopolitical meaning. It has no particular cultural import or universal significance, no geographic uniqueness, no ethnic exclusiveness,” fulminating that Moscow must solve “the Ukrainian problem.”‘

Another one of those ‘go read-the-whole-thing‘ feature — makes sense, though, with Russian history and a monster like Putin connecting in a live-wire blowout for the whole, and complete world.
