Today is the 16th birthday of Compatible Creatures, a small, tiny, insignificant plot of space on the InterWebs I’ve called home for a seemingly long time. As with any birthday, age appears quickly fluttering now well beyond a year-by-year creep to be currently on a massive, headlong rush to somewhere even I can’t even grasp.
In 2007, GW Bush and the Iraq war was the top-of-the-news cycle of horror and anguish. The Great Recession and Barack Obama were still a year off, and the beyond-grasping alarm of the T-Rump and the current nightmare embodiment of the Republican party was still a near decade away. Although our current status of Shitsville could maybe possibly have been noted all that time ago, who in his right mind could believe an orange shitheel would come along to cause so much damage — we didn’t even yet have the sickening, frightful experience of Sarah Palin.
This blog has made me more mindful, and more aware of how we’re now living in Shitsville, from not only politics but climate change, along with social and cultural bullshit that’s put us (and the world) on an extremely dangerous projection. Today 16 years ago was a Tuesday.
Plus, a special shout-out to Eric Metze, my longtime blog administrator/go-to IT guy for the blog. Eric has been more to me beyond the InterWebs these past 16 years — he’s a good guy! He can handle all your virtual needs, including great, wondrous AI, at Metzae Media.
Eric designed the original Compatible Creatures site and at 3:46 PM April 24, 2007, plugged it into the Web with the content of just two words, ‘Woo-hoo!‘ and ‘Creatures‘ became alive:
Later that day, at 8:46 PM, I published my original post, aptly entitled, “Word” — the first of 4,370 posts to follow:
As thus written, a short punch:
In an age where events are known so fast and everybody just about everywhere can instantly become aware of every corner of the globe even the smallest little word can carry a big weight.
And the little word here today is “palliate,” which means to try and make a wrong or an offense seem less severe, mitigate the circumstances. And palliate is just what the Bush Black House is now doing with the announcement that Scott Bloch, Bush-appointed head of the US Office of Special Counsel, will lead a sweeping investigation into Karl Rove’s politicking with taxpayer money and breaking a ton of federal laws while doing it.
Bloch himself was recently investigated by the IG of the Office of Personnel Management for pushing a right-wing agenda down the throats of federal employees.
So all Bloch is doing is an obvious attempt to try and bury Rove’s political wrongdoing by creating and intense investigation and then, By Golly, there was no indication of any lawbreaking on Rove’s part. Bush/Cheney/Rove are just trying to palliate the whole mess.
Lie, lie, and monkeys can fly.
And the ‘Word‘ could service the nowadays, too.
Anywhat, to finish off this birthday celebration, this aptly titled ‘The Blog Song’ –also published in 2007:
Despite the years, once again here we are…
