Former president Donald Trump was rushed off the stage at a campaign rally in Butler, Pa., about 30 miles north of Pittsburgh, after shots were heard near the beginning of the event. He put his hand to his right ear and ducked after the first of several pops. Secret Service agents surrounded him and took him off the stage, his face streaked with what appeared to be blood.
Secret Service spokesman Anthony Guglielmi confirmed in a statement that there was “an incident” at the rally and said Trump is now safe.
Butler County District Attorney Richard Goldinger said two people are dead, including an apparent shooter.
The shooting is official (per the Associated Press): ‘A shooting at Donald Trump‘s rally in Butler, Pennsylvania is being investigated as an attempted assassination of the former president and presumptive Republican nominee, law enforcement officials say.‘
Not much else is known right now, closing in on 6 PM here in California. This will be the center of the news cycles into the foreseeable future as the story plays out in information gained this evening (and released to the public) by investigating units, the Secret Service, and the FBI — although I would have thought the other way around (Biden being targeted).
And of Biden, he released a statement earlier on condemning the incent: ‘“There is no place in America for this kind of violence,” Biden said. “It’s sick.”‘
