Now we know how Republicans can be such shameless, flip-flopping, lying assholes (h/t tweet C&J):
Are you a Republican who regrets blaming Trump for the insurrection?
Then you need Insurrectigone. pic.twitter.com/rK1ZNZDmBE

One of the most-ridiculous instances in current American life is how Republicans can, without an ounce of discomfiture or remorse, fling reality out the window and dare anyone to question their lying in the face of any obvious observations of what really happened last Jan.6 at the US Capitol building. America as a whole is expected to clamber down the amnesia hole and discount the real-time TV images and later the tons of video on the terror of a conspicuous attempt at an insurrection/riot to overturn the results of the presidential election.
It’s really near-about inconceivable. Yet here we are staring at an utter contempt for authenticity for actual truth.
In an endeavor to investigate the incident, last week the House worked-out a deal for a bipartisan commission to scrutinize the attack by T-Rump supporters, and also maybe recommend adjustments to the security of the area. The commission would, among its duties, examine ‘“facts and circumstances of the January 6th attack on the Capitol as well as the influencing factors that may have provoked the attack on our democracy.”‘
Which in itself would scare the shit out of Republicans because they know the T-Rump f*cked-up royally and would drag all their sorry asses down into the trench of a shitstorm.
So now they don’t want any part of such a thing. Despite the GQP pushback, the House is expected to vote on the proposal later today.
Meanwhile yesterday, dip-wad liar Kevin McCarthy voiced opposition to the commision, despite apparently okaying it originally (amnesia hole) and is working his useless ass off trying to shift the whole plot, mainly because he’s scared of the T-Rump’s non-action during the incident.
Jennifer Rubin at The Washington Post this morning nails weasel McCarthy in one titular graph:
McCarthy’s cowardly position betrays his own members, shows he will continue to put MAGA obedience above truth and democracy, and reminds the country why it would be dangerous to make him speaker. Part of his motivation is likely attributable to his own role as a witness.
Unless he perjures himself or refuses to testify (risking a contempt finding), he will have to testify about a phone call on Jan. 6 in which he failed to persuade the outgoing president to rescue the Capitol. (Cheney has made clear that McCarthy should testify and added that she hopes he will do so without a subpoena.)
The phone call indicts both people in that conversation — the president for refusing to perform his duties and McCarthy in covering up that salient point.
However, some GQPer in the House ‘are privately considering voting for the Jan. 6 commission,’ which could f*ck-up McCarthy’s vile squirm. A lot of GQPers do have some reality shakes in them, it appears.
And then today, MoscowMitch added his ass-turning/flip-flopping voice to the dreamscape — via NPR this afternoon:
Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell said Wednesday he opposes a bipartisan plan to create a 9/11-style commission to investigate the Jan. 6 insurrection at the U.S. Capitol, dealing a setback to the proposal’s chances in the U.S. Senate.
Just a day ago, McConnell, R-Ky., had signaled the party was open to the commission to investigate the Jan. 6 riot by supporters of former President Donald Trump but added he wanted “to read the fine print.”
That openness was short-lived.“After careful consideration, I’ve made a decision to oppose the House Democrats’ slanted and unbalanced proposal for another commission to study the events of Jan. 6,” he said Wednesday on the Senate floor.
…
Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., said Wednesday that “both sides” negotiated for months on the commission.“At the 11th hour, the House Republican leadership turned tail, threw its own negotiators under the bus and decided to try to sabotage the commission,” he said on the Senate floor.
“Once again, they are caving to Donald Trump and proving that the Republican Party is still drunk off the big lie.”He reiterated that he will bring the proposal to the floor after its passage in the House — despite McConnell’s position.
And a good, serious examination of the commission is at Lawfare from last night, including the panel being similar to the noted 9/11 commission, and this on the weight of the inquiry:
One commendable feature of the bill is that it does not compromise on the premise that Jan. 6 represented something ugly and dangerous that requires investigation. There is no false equivalence here with violence at other protests, for example. The bill, rather, includes a long section describing the “purpose” of the body, the first section of which does not mince words:
“To investigate and report upon the facts and causes relating to the January 6, 2021, domestic terrorist attack upon the United States Capitol Complex (hereafter referred to as the ‘‘domestic terrorist attack on the Capitol’’) and relating to the interference with the peaceful transfer of power, including facts and causes relating to the preparedness and response of the United States Capitol Police and other Federal, State, and local law enforcement in the National Capitol Region and other instrumentality of government, as well as the influencing factors that fomented such attack on American representative democracy while engaged in a constitutional process.”
No wonder Republicans are in such opposition to such shit.
They’re desperate for a plan to sabotage the entire operation — in that regard, Andy Borowitz at The New Yorker this morning found the real-time latest move of Republicans to quash memory of the Capitol complex entirely via the calendar:
WASHINGTON, D.C. (The Borowitz Report)—In a controversial proposal that has raised eyebrows among political observers, the House Minority Leader, Kevin McCarthy, is urging that January 6th be removed from the month of January.
“There’s been a lot of disagreement over whether January 6th is actually a real day in the month of January,” McCarthy said. “The American people want us to move on.”
Noting that “many months get by with just thirty days in them,” McCarthy asked why “January should be any different.”
At the United States Senate, Ron Johnson, of Wisconsin, questioned whether January 6th “ever existed,” and suggested that the date might have been a “hoax.”
“If you ask a member of Antifa whether January has a date in it called the sixth, I guarantee you that he or she will say it does,” he said. “I don’t see why we should continue to recognize a fake date that was made up by Antifa.”
Let’s see a show of hands, please…with an added plus, you can then throw away all those Insurrectigone tablets…
Or just give a hand:
“Work, work, work…”
